Thrigmopoeus truculentus - Karwar Large Burrowing spider is a species of Tarantulas found endemic to Westernghats of India. This spices of spiders like others hunt on small mammals, reptiles and large insects and are nocturnal.
These spiders are seen in the burrows in the interior areas of Westernghats. The burrows vary in sizes from 3-6 Inches depending on the size of the spider. They are observed to be sensitive to the movement and track the prey with their acute sense of vision. Its bite may cause intense pain.
These spiders are territorial and may have multiple interconnected burrows.
However, there has been exploration in progress to know more about them. Tarantulas are in tremendous demand as it is kept as a pet abroad. We hope that the tourists visiting India are not transporting

The local people of Yellapura believe that it is a poisonous spider and when a person is bitten by this spider the person experiences extreme pain and seizure like reactions. They also believe that for 24 hours after being bitten the person acts like spider by moving the same way the spider moves its body and limbs.
